A bit about ME ...

Since graduating with a Masters degree in 2010, I've worked in both England and Australia gaining a load of experience across a number of industries - from non-profit organisations to digital marketing, and e-learning.

What I love most is bringing together my creative flair with my technical abilities; I revel in the the challenge of creating a website or solution that is great to look at, technically brilliant, and most importantly provides the user with the best possible experience!

I've also been able to complememt my technical skills by designing a number of sites and print materials, interacting with clients, managing projects, as well as managing and training a number of colleagues. I enjoy understanding the whole development process and working alongside others in order to create the most flexible and user friendly creative solutions.

MY WORK

Throughout my time at Wildscreen, a charity promoting wildlife conservation through imagery, I was responsible for the majority of the front end development across all of the initiatives. From transforming Wildscreen Arkive to be fully responsive, to totally redesigning and rebuilding the Wildscreen site.

I was also responsible for the design and styling of Wildscreen Exchange, and maintaining Wildscreen Photography Festival and Wildscreen Film Festival.

In addition, I undertook all internal graphic and design tasks within the organisation: redesigning the websites inline with Wildscreen's rebrand, as well as creating a variety of both print and digital materials.

Wildscreen

Working for BYG Systems Ltd, a leading e-learning supplier, I created and maintained a huge number of bespoke e-learning courses for a wide variety of blue chip organisations, operating both nationally and internationally.

I took particular enjoyment in working in conjunction with other departments to create the most flexible and user friendly solutions, challenging the stereotypical and overused norms through my enthusiasm for new creative solutions. For many of these projects I was appointed as the technical lead, responsible for the entire technical aspect of a project.

Bespoke e-Learning

Another element of my role working for BYG Systems Ltd involved developing a number of Learning Management Systems (LMS) and e-learning portals. Both of these types of software house e-learning courses, track the users' progress, and provide reporting for administrators. The portals provided the client with a more bespoke product, offering a higher level of functionality such as course feedback and more comprehensive user admin.

LMS and Portal Development

I spent a number of months working for GPY&R, a leading Australian creative agency, on projects for the Australian Army and AFL.

I've also experience working for small businesses such as Bluebird Tea Co. who required a bespoke wordpress site to match their existing commerce site.

In addition to my paid employment, I have developed a number of personal websites for educational and promotional purposes. Aside from this web development portfolio, a live example can be found at katherinedixon.co.uk, which showcases my photography and filmmaking.

Freelance & Personal Projects

I consider myself lucky to be part of a select group of web developers with an appreciation and skill for asthetic, user friendly solutions. I have a strong eye for design, and a love of photography and film (katherinedixon.co.uk) - all of which complement and enhance my front end development work; I have more than just coding skills to bring to a project!
